HPRU EZI 2017 Annual Conference Awards

On 12 December 2017 the NIHR HPRU in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections (HPRU EZI) held its annual conference at the University of Liverpool in London, on Finsbury Square. Over 75 people struggled through the snow and attended the event which was well received by all.

The conference focused on 'Meeting the Challenges and Thinking Ahead' with keynote talks from Dr Ana Maria Bispo de Filippis, Laboratório de Flavivírus, Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Brazil on ‘Zika infection in Brazil: where are we now?’ and Professor Daniel Bausch, Director of the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UKPHRST) on ‘Outbreaks: The Slow Road to Rapid Control’.

Delegates joined in the discussions on twitter via the #hpruezi2017.

Delegates were also given the opportunity to vote online for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for best oral presentation. The winner was PhD student Charlotte Robin for her talk on ‘Disease, disgust and dirty work: exploring the border practices of pest control.’

Members of the HPRU EZI Scientific Advisory Board judged best poster presentation, with first and runner up prizes and the best oral presentation, offering two first prizes.

PhD Students Jordana Munoz-Basagoiti and Stephanie Begemann win first prize for Best Oral Presentation. Jordana for a focus on lab work and Stephanie with a focus on public health.
