NIHR HPRU PhD Academy Inaugural Event

Hpru Phd Academy

On 30 and 31 January 2017 58 PhD students from across 11 Health Protection Research Units met at The University of Liverpool in London for the first HPRU PhD Academy, jointly hosted by the NIHR HPRU in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections and NIHR HPRU in Gastrointestinal Infections.

The purpose of the event was to share knowledge across the HPRUs and to give the PhD students a platform to present their research. Each unit gave an overview of their research, as well as two focused oral presentations led by the PhD students on their HPRU work.

During the event there were training opportunities from Professor Bernie Hannigan, Deputy Director at Public Health England (PHE) on the importance of NIHR HPRU PhDs’ contribution to public health, and Dr Satnam Sagoo, Head of Education and Training Unit at PHE on developing a career in public health.
