Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Strategy

Our vision is to create a culture shift in which meaningful patient and public involvement, engagement (PPIE) and participation are embedded within the culture of the NIHR HPRU EZI. This will be achieved by including them at the start and throughout the research programme and our governance structure, staying true to our values of reciprocity, transparency and inclusivity.

To achieve our vision the NIHR HPRU EZI has established a Patient and Public Involvement, Engagement and Participation strategy. This has been approved by the Unit's steering group in March and submitted to the NIHR.

HPRU EZI patient and public involvement, engagement, and participation strategy visual poster. This poster describes the strategy in a visual format, with icons and illustrations reflecting the main aims and objectives as outlined in the strategy document.

The strategy has been developed and finalised by the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) working group.  The working group consists of four public contributors with lived experience relevant to the research of the HPRU EZI and an academic representative from each partner.  The meetings are chaired by the Unit's PPI lead and they are responsible for the strategy.  The PPIE working group was put in place to support the lead and to be a discussion partner.  In order to ensure that the strategy is put into practice, the PPIE working group have also approved an implementation plan.  This entails further information to help the group in the execution of the strategy and to monitor whether the Unit is on track in delivering its ambitions.  The group have their own terms of reference, which will be reviewed when needed.
