HPRU-EZI Early Career Researchers begin Academic Career Development Programme

Tue, 11 May 2021

Recent experience with the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in the UK has shown there are skills gaps in emergency outbreak preparedness. Our key objective is therefore to establish long-term sustainability of research capacity for future emergency preparedness, ensuring students have the core skills needed to respond to outbreaks of emerging infections in the UK. We will use our PHE base at Porton Down as a centre for group training and we will aim to have regular cohort training using available resources at all partner institutions while also pursuing long-term collaboration within the NIHR Academy network. Training will be offered in key transferable skills that complement scientific research such as dissemination, PPIE & presentation skills.

We will further develop the skills of senior researchers within the HPRU so they possess the latest knowledge of innovative methods to conduct their work, develop professionally, and can continue to train the next generation of researchers in emerging infections in the UK. All training courses completed will be logged with any applicable expiry dates. This will be monitored by the HPRU-EZI Management Team for the duration of the HPRU contract.
