UKHSA awards Avian Influenza research grants

We were delighted to award funding for four projects to focus on Avian Influenza research. A total pot of £215,000 has been allocated by the HPRU-EZI centre at UKHSA to researchers at the University of Liverpool, LSTM and UKHSA. The following project will run to March 2025:
- Modelling transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and mapping potential risk to humans (Emily Nixon & Kieran Sharkey - University of Liverpool);
- Diagnostics consortium to address challenges in the rapid detection of Avian Influenza Virus (Emily Adams - LSTM);
- Duck, duck, goose: A combined modelling and serosurveillance approach to understand H5N1 within England (Ashley Otter - UKHSA);
- Epidemic simulation of Influenza A: Applications to current HPAI, and a deployable pipeline for future outbreaks (Marcus Blagrove - University of Liverpool).
